I had forgotten all about this quilt tablecloth that I made years ago and found it in this last move. As much as I love Morning Glories I needed to use it. It is pieced and lined but not quilted. I decided long ago not to quilt it since I was going to use it as a table cloth. I may someday decide to quilt it. I loved this pattern and the beautiful morning glories on it. You dont find morning glory material often and in facat this is the only time I have ever found any. I love it like it is.

This Little Quilt was made for Candi when she was little for a doll quilt. She played with it and her baby dolls.



The story about this little bear is that I made some crazy patch material and cut out the bear and this was when Candi was a little girl. She loved that bear and she named it PaPa Bob and still today Kyleigh plays with it and loves it as well. It has held up pretty well after all these years of pretty rough play.
The little chair that the bear is sitting on is out of the Old Methodist Church in Claremore which a friend Anawake Dawson gave me when they sold the old church to build the new one. I loved that chair because it reminded me of the one I sat at in the Methodist Church in Lone Wolf where I went as a little girl and up until I married. Good Memories of that Church.

Years ago I started to make a pieced quilt with this elephant block. A girl at work had found this pattern in a book and since I collect elephants she thought I would like to have it. Well I got four blocks made and boy they were difficult so I put them up thinking someday I would finish them. Well never did so this past week I had again lots of time on my hands so I just put together a little wall hanging and decided to make it a memory hanging with all my sisters and brothers and parents names on it. Turned out pretty good and I just hung it in my living room. I know it would have made a really pretty quilt but I will look at it each day and the quilt I would have worked on for far to long being it was a hard pattern to do.

This little quilt is my last quilt I made. When I moved back to Oklahoma I had a lot of time to just sit and needed something to do. I didn't bring my machine so I decided to do this one 100% by hand and a simple pattern. It only took me about two months to piece this and quilt it by hand. (I did bring my wonderful quilt frame).
It turned out to be a pretty quilt and I enjoy using it. I use all of my quilts and always have. Just something special sleeping under a quilt. I am now working on another one but I will machine piece it and hand quilt it.

This little quilted bear is a special bear. I made it some years ago. My great Aunt Arlie had given me a box of stuff and a old worn out quilt was in it. This quilt was just nearly thread bearing and I wanted to do something with it so I found the best parts of it which were the parts that hung off the side of the bed this makinig it not so worn. I cut those part away and made three of these bears. One for Linda and one for Shelba Lou and one for me. I sadly dont know what happen to Linda's and hope SHelba still has hers. I treasure mine because if I am right these were made from a quilt that either Aunt Arlie had made or Grandma Ward. So lots of Memories in this little red and white bear. Also a note the little stool that the bear is sitting on was made by Grandpa Zinn out of grape vines or so I was told. That also is a treasure. I have re-upostered the top but the bottom still in tack.

Little Quilter

Well this is my little Quilter. She saw her mommie quilting (I thought Candice had forgot how but when they were here on Candi's birthday she sat down and quilted
several block. I had taught her when she was very small. So here is my little Kyleigh going to learn how as well. This Memory makes me so happy.



Here is Candice and she is quilting again and I am so happy that she did not forget how to quilt and I thought it was so cute to see Kyleigh trying to do what she saw her Mother do.

Old Quilt Top

This quilt was made from a old quilt top that was Mrs. Aikens the blind lady that lived next
door to us for many many years. I quilted this and do not know where it is today. I think that Rickey had it for awhile and it was misplaced. I hate that because of it belonging to Mrs. Aiken made it really special.
The little quilt that is laying across the quilt is a Sun Bonnet Sue doll quilt that I made for Candi when she was a little girl. As all of my quilts these are/where special to me. Just more memories that last forever.

Merle's Fish Throw/Quilt

This is a little throw that I made for Merle. He has KOI fish but I could not find material with KOI so tropical had to do. He liked it tho.

Small Quilt
This is a small quilt/throw that I mad for Doris June. She wanted it to match her bedroom so I gave it to her.

This is a little quilt that is called Blue Work each block is done in all one color thread. Most do these in red but I wanted this one to be blue. Title is "The Little

Sampler Quilt
This is one of the first quilts that I made. I use to watch a quilting show on tv and the lady taught the quilt by the block method. Each block was made and quilted and then they were set together to make the whole quilt. Turns out that this is not my favorite method for quilting and the only one that I made like that. It gave me a chance to work with several different styles of blocks and materials which is good practice for a beginner quilter. I find that quilting is a very relaxing hobby and one that I have enjoyed for many years. I still love to quilt and have a quilt of some kind going at all times. Blue Work Quilt

This little quilt is one that I made for Kyleigh Marie and it is what is normally called "Red Work" however I did this one in blue thread to match the border. This little pattern of Sun Bonnet Sue gatherinig eggs is another favorite of mine.

Candice Elaine Quilting

Candice lived with me when she was a little girl and I tried to teach her all kinds of things. She would watch me quilt and she wanted to try and she did pretty well. She could do anything that she set her mind to. She also was a very fast learner. I love this picture and enjoy the memories that go along with it. Memories That Will Last Forever

Wall Hanging

This was a quilting wall hanging that I made when I moved into my mobil home several years ago. This was made from the same material that my drapes were made of.

YO YO Quilt


This is a different quilt in fact I would not call it a quilt but a throw but the pattern called it a quilt. This one took a very long time and lots of little circles gathered up to make the yo yo's. When I got enough made I then by hand sewed each one together to make it the size I wanted.
I made this quilt and gave it to my friend and boss at the hospital in Claremore. Vicki Couch liked this and I told her if she ever got married (smile) I would give it to her. Well I didnt wait until she got married I decided to give it to her for her Birthday one year. It was a very colorful quilt and took a lot of circles and each one made by hand.
I never made another one like it but consider it to be one of my prettiest quilts that I have ever made. Good Memories in this quilt from the beginning to the end.

Very Old Quilt Block


This is just a quilt block that has not been put into a quilt. I just put a binding on it to preserve it. I am not 100% sure but if my memory serves me my Mother had this block in a trunk and when she gave it to me she said it was made by my father's mother Ludella Pearl Swafford McConnell. Of course that just makes it more special to me. I have never seen the pattern and I have looked in many quilt books for this pattern. It very well may be one she just made up. I know I do that a lot myself I just design my blocks the way I think they look good. Anyway you look at it this is a old block and very special to a quilter. Belonging to my grandmother make it just even more the better. This would really be a Memory That Last Forever.

Butterfly Wall Hanging

This is a wll hanging that I made from some pieced butterflies that my little Grandmother Zinn made many years ago. I put them on quilt blocks and sashed them with blue strips and on each block is a member of my family embroidered. I love this pattern because it is a old pattern and I have seen it in several quilt books over the years. Of course I love anything that is old and mostly because it belonged to my grandmother and them mother kept the blocks for many years in a trunk (I also have the trunk that is over 100 years old).

Rachel's Quilt
This little quilt was made for a special little girl in my life. Rachel is the daughter of my dearest friend Teresa and Brad. I started this quilt for her when she was first born. Little Rachel was born very tiny just a couple of pounds and she is indeed a mircle from birth. She brings so much joy to her parents and they have shared her with me. I love this little girl as if she were my very own great granddaughter and I plan to be in her life for a very long time. Each stitch that I made in this quilt was a stitch of love. I sent this to little Rachel for Christmas 2008. Special Memories on the quilt.

Family Tree Quilt

This quilt I made by scanning old photo's and printing them on transfer paper and then I transfered them to quilt blocks. Zinn McConnell Ward Swafford. I made this to pass along to my son Randy someday. Making this quilt sure brought memories to mind. I could just quilt and think of that ansestor and how it was for them in those days of long ago. Again I will say "Memories Last Forever" even in a quilt.

Methodist Quilters
This is my Sun Bonnet Sue quilt that we are working on. This little quilting group would meet one day a week and quilt all day. We would bring a sack lunch and then just quilt and visit and have a really special time. I normally would quilt my own quilts but on this one I really wanted the memories of quilting with me friends. The lady on the left that is looking up and smiling is my dear friend Penny Savage. We were friends for many years and I look forward to seeing her again when I move back to Oklahoma. She made the prettiest quilts I have ever seen in my life. When she quilted she did one stitch at a time and that is not the normal way most quilt but I tell you her quilting was perfect. I only wish I could quilt half as good. Lillian Cowan my mother

I will always have wonderful memories from quilting with this group.

Candice 's Little Sun Bonnet Sue
This little quilt I made for Candice and I worked really hard to make this quilt special. It has a lot of fancy embroidery work on it and a lot of quilting. I worked on this for a lot of years and even little Candice worked on it some. Being that this is my favorite pattern I always love working on the quilts with a lot of work on them.

Mothers Rebekah Lodge Friendship Quilt

This quilt is special to me because it was given to Mother many years ago but the Rebekah Lodge Order that she belonged to and was active in for so many years. All the ladies made a block and they put their name on the block. It is really neat to look at those names and remember back to the ladies. I of course knew most all of them.

The Rebekah Lodge
I could not write about mother without putting something in about the Lodge where she enjoyed many years Nellie Juanita (Zinn) McConnell was a long standing member of the Rebekah Lodge in both Lone Wolf, Oklahoma Lodge number 126 as well as Hobart, Oklahoma Lodge number 78. In the span of these forty two (42) years mother served as Nobel Grand Several times. She served in 1950 and 1955 in Lone Wolf also three times at Hobart Lodge, those years being 1972, 1978 and 1981. She was still a active member at the time of her death in October of 1989. These are only some of the dates that I was able to verify and I do believe there are other years that she served in this capacity of Nobel Grand. From what research I have done I think this is the same as the president of the club or lodge. I know that Mother truly enjoyed being a member of the Rebekah Lodge.
For many years I can remember as a child that mother would go to Lodge meetings every Monday night. These meetings were held at the Lodge Hall that was upstairs above Hartsons Drug Store. I can remember us kids going to the movie on Monday nights while mother was at Lodge Meetings. The movie theater was across the street from where she was meeting. Mother joined on June 9, 1947 and was a member there for many years until May 11th of 1970 when the Lone Wolf Lodge members joined with the Hobart Lodge. There were not many members that could climb the stairs to the meeting hall when they were getting older and the membership fell off. It was at that time that Mother and several others went to Hobart. Mother was an active member in Hobart until the time of her death.
The Hobart Rebekah Lodge # 78 was instituted on April 26, 1902 with a membership of 75 listed on the Charter. In the year 1980 not to much had changed because there were just over 100 member. With the invention of television and even cars since the existence of the Rebekah Lodge they have held there own. In the year of 1980 the youngest member was 22 years old and the oldest being 91 years of age. Rebekahs are constantly "Striving to win the war of Adversity: and they lend their talents, time and money to the promotion of homes for the elderly, scholarships for excelling students, sending delegated to visit the United Nations in Session. The only Fraternal Order to be able to do this. Several students from this local district have made this trip. Eye Research - Support a Chair at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. For eye research. Diabetes research, Aid as leaders in March of Dimes campaign along with research in Drug Abuse and Youth Center.
Mother always thought that they did good works to help people in need. She gave many hours to this cause. Many of Mothers friends belong to the Rebekah Lodge as well. Mother knew everything there was to know about the Rebekah’s and she took pride in being a long term in good standing member of both the Lodge in Lone Wolf and later the one in Hobart. She was driving herself and some of her friends to Hobart every week to meetings up until the time she had her stroke.

Candice Elaine First Quilt

When Candi was a little girl she wanted to make a quilt. She would see me quilting a lot and she wanted to make one for her doll. So we cut her up some blocks and she would sit by me and with her little sewing box she would piece the blocks. She did them all by herself and then we together set it together and she tacked it. Candi did a lot of things when she was little just like I would do. She could stand on a chair and make a pie crust right along with me. Candi also loved to make cookies and she would cut them out and the whole thing except I would not let her use the oven. I hope now that she has a little girl our sweet little Kyleigh Marie that she will teach her some of the things that I taught her back in those days. Candi was the Joy of my life and still is except now she has to share it with Kyleigh Marie. More Memories That Have Lasted Forever

Special Quilt
I guess you might can tell by looking at most of my quilts they are a lot of them Sun Bonnet Sue just all different. I love tht pattern and I have several of them. Now this partucilar quilt is special in that it was pieced and set together by me and then the First Methodist Church in Claremore that I belong to the quilting group quilted it. I was so pleased to be able to quilt with these lovely ladies that were in our group.
This quilt has a lot of quilting and if you will notice a little butterfly in each block. I put a butterfly in each of the Sun Bonnett Sue quilt that I make. Some are fancier than others. Actually the more I make the better I get in quilting and the fancier I made the blocks. The next one after this one I really did a lot of extra work. Quilts are memories that are made one stitch at a time. I am so proud to own several quilts that I have made over the years. I sleep every night with one of the quilts summer and winter you will find one on my bed.
Truly Memories Last Forever.

"Centennial" This quilt has quite a story behind it.I worked on this quilt for at least 20 years.No I am not that slow I just kept taking it outworking on it and putting it up again. I seemed to have a problemgetting it to square up so I would just put it up and thenI would drag it out again.One day I just decided to take the scissors and make it straight and bind it and finish it.At long last it was finished and turned out pretty good.I had called it "My Ugly Quilt"for years but as it turned out it was pretty and very colorful. The pattern is called "Centennial".There is a story behind this quilt pattern.Back in the covered wagon pioneer days, womenwould cut little pieces of fabric in hexagon shapes and they would trade with their friends, then when they had enough blocks that were different they would make this quilt. This would make many different colors and patterns in the quilt. I enjoy this quilt and I use it a lot. I actually use all my quilts because
that is what they are made for is to use and enjoy.

Quilting

One of my very favorite things to do is to quilt. I learned how to quilt on this quilt. The blocks are made for dresses that Arlene and I wore as little girls. Mother had set the blocks and never quilted them. We I decided that I wanted to learn to quilt I took the blocks and put new background material on each one. What was there was turnning yellow and I wanted it to be white. After I finished all the blocks I sit it together with the pink and blue sashing. I quilted this by hand as I do all my quilts. I was pretty proud of the quilt even tho I am sure it was a very beginner's quilt and any quilter could tell . I was however proud of the work that I had done and therefore my first attempt at quilting. Over the years I have used this quilt a lot. I am a firm believer that a quilt is made to use not just to look at. So for many years I used it. Just recently Candi my granddaughter ask me for this quilt because she said it was the softest one of all my quilts. This even after I had given her a beautiful Sun Bonnet Sue quilt for her high school graduation but it was new and she wanted this one because it was soft. (smile) Well yes of course I gave it to her like I do most things she wants this telling you she is a little spoiled and I am to blame for most of that. (smile) She uses the quilt and that I am happy about. This is just another amoung the many memories that I have that will last forever.
